You can't honestly call yourself a writer unless you write, but us writers all know the feeling of sitting there staring at a blank screen or piece of paper. You kid yourself that you need inspiration or to find your muse, start looking through social media posts or emails. Before you know it time has ticked by, its time to walk the dog or pick up the kids. The blank screen or page is no different from when you first sat down an hour ago. Let's face it we've all been there and done that!
So how do you get those elusive words onto the page?
At Monmouth Writers, we meet as a group once a month and topics are set to write about. If you're unsure about where to start or what to write about this is a good way to overcome it. By having a topic set for you it makes you think and gives you something to focus on. Why not have a look at our upcoming topics and see what poem or story you come up with.
There are other things to try too, such as listening to music or reading the news. The main thing is to write. If you can't find something to inspire you then why not write about your day or how you would have liked to have spent it. What are your hopes and dreams? What would you do if you were stranded on a desert island? If you had a superpower what would it be? You get the idea . . .
If you write something every day, it doesn't matter what it is or even if its any good. It will help you fill those blank pages and develop a writing habit which will improve your writing skills along the way. So whatever your writing goal there's no excuse, so stop reading this and get writing!
