About us

In the beginning . . .

Monmouth Writers Group was founded by Michael Mortimer after he wrote a letter requesting expressions of interest to a local newspaper in 1994. As a result of the letter, a group of creative writers have been meeting monthly ever since. The group have published three anthologies with proceeds being donated to local charities and have been involved in performance evenings and other literary events and workshops.
Before moving to Monmouthshire Michael, a retired Baptist Minister was once an insurance broker in the Thames Valley and was lucky enough to know writers such as Pam Ayres, Barbara Euphan Todd, Dick Francis and Agatha Christie who all inspired him to write.
The group has always welcomed novice and experienced writers who produce work to be read on a set topic each month. As a group we enjoy the variety of work produced by our members and feedback is always constructive and supportive.

"Don't tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass."
